Jens has one more month to go before his contract ends at UWA. After that...nothing is sure and all is open. We decided to start with our bucket list, doing the things we want to do before we are forced to leave WA. Gestern waren wir bei Wave Rock: 330km Sud östlich von Perth. Mehr als ein Stein ist da nicht, aber noch immer schön zu sehnen wie die Natur aus Stein einem Welle machen kann. Volgende dagtrip wordt Rottnes Island, waar de Nederlandse Kapitein De Vlamingh in 1696 landde en dacht dat hij ratten had zien rondspringen. Dit bleken de aller gelukkigste dieren ter wereld te zijn: Quokka's

Nur 45min suedlich von Perth leben die kleinsten Pinguine der Welt, nur ca. 30cm gross. Das Besucherzentrum auf der Insel zeigt jene Pinguine die verletzt oder krank gefunden wurden und dort wieder aufgezogen werden.
About 1000 little Penguins, just 30cm in height and the smallest species in the world, can be found off Rockingham on Penguin Island. Visitors can view the Penguin feeding for the little creatures who can't survive in the wild anymore.
We did the 2km walk around the island with cliffs and rocky shores. Sometimes dolphins, sea lions, and stingrays can be spotted here. Many pelicans and sea birds were making lots of noise. The water was not so cold, maybe 20 degrees, Jens dived in.
Ein 2km Wanderweg ueber Holzplanken fuehlt ueber die Insel und den Weststrand. Schoene Buchten, schroffe Kalkfelsen und super sauberes und hellblaues Wasser. Ich bin baden gegangen und habe die Felsen abgesucht nach kleinen Pinguinen, aber leider keinen gefunden.
We were lucky to spot one little Penguin in his breeding box in the bush. They hide during the day and only come out in the early morning and late afternoon for feeding. Wir hatten Glueck und haben einen kleinen Pinguin gefunden in seiner Brutbox am Rande vom Busch. Sie lieben keine starke Hitze und verbergen sich Mittags im Unterholz, kommen dann morgens und spaet am Nachmittag raus.
